چکیده
H oused in the Computer and Information Science and Engineering Directorate, the National Science Foundation’s interdisciplinary Digital Government research program is intended to fund “... research at the intersection of the computer and information science research communities and the midto long-term needs of the Federal information service communities.” As active participants in NSF DG research projects and cochairs of the recent 2005 National Digital Government Conference, the authors suggest that DG research, a growing activity, involves many researchers beyond those associated with the NSF DG program. They advocate reaching out to this larger community of scholars to form a critical mass that will support a society, annual conference, and academic journal.

Increasing the efficiency of medical research with dynamic research summaries for researchers and consumers.
Literature reviews are usually the first step in conducting medical research projects. They often lead to the creation of a useful research question. However, this initial step in medical research contains inefficiencies, which if removed, could speed up the research process and thereby enhance development of innovative health related products. In addition, existing research article databases o...
متن کاملEvaluación de resúmenes automáticos mediante QARLA
This article shows an application of the QARLA evaluation framework on DUC-2004 (tasks 2 and 5). The QARLA framework allows to evaluate summaries with regard to different features. Second, it allows to combine and meta-evaluate different similarity metrics, giving more weigh to metrics which characterize models (manual summaries) regarding automatic summaries.

In this article we propose a strategy for the summarization of scientific articles that concentrates on the rhetorical status of statements in an article: Material for summaries is selected in such a way that summaries can highlight the new contribution of the source article and situate it with respect to earlier work. We provide a gold standard for summaries of this kind consisting of a substa...
متن کاملQuery-Based Abstractive Summarization Using Neural Networks
In this paper, we present a model for generating summaries of text documents with respect to a query. This is known as querybased summarization. We adapt an existing dataset of news article summaries for the task and train a pointer-generator model using this dataset. The generated summaries are evaluated by measuring similarity to reference summaries. Our results show that a neural network sum...

متن کاملSocially-Informed Timeline Generation for Complex Events
Existing timeline generation systems for complex events consider only information from traditional media, ignoring the rich social context provided by user-generated content that reveals representative public interests or insightful opinions. We instead aim to generate socially-informed timelines that contain both news article summaries and selected user comments. We present an optimization fra...
